Language
The advert
shows one particular footballer celebrating with thousands of people behind him
looking at him. The slogan ‘’every goal matters’’ suggests that football is a
sport where everything is serious and by missing a game or goal means you've missed out of something big. The conventions of this advert are the Barclay's premier league logo so the viewer knows it’s a football advertisement. Another
convention is the Sky Sports logo which shows Sky is advertising sports
channels. The Sky logo being a recognisable brand which means when they
advertise it’s a recognisable advert and millions of people would have seen it.
The slogan ‘’believe in better’’ makes people think everything sky do will get
better and better.
Institution
Sports is a
group of sports television channels operated by the satellite pay-TV company
British Sky Broadcasting. Sky Sports is a commodity which is something bought
and sold. A monthly subscription fee is paid. Barclay’s premier league is a
well-known brand for football. Rupert Murdoch is the founder of Sky.
Audience
The target
audience for this advertisement is dominantly football fans. This would be
mainly for male viewers but also female viewers with an 80:20 split. The
minimum age would be 25 to 60 as this is a monthly subscription, and
subscribers with a good wage packet would be paying for this rather than a
student who is studying. This would make Sky Sports target middle classed
people.
Representation
The representation on the advert is mainly
white male footballers. This suggests that mainly white players are in the
Premier League or even more white footballers around the world. This may have
been done due to the fact that more Europeans watch football than the Asian
community as stereotypes suggest the Asian community are more into cricket. Even
though women’s football in growing its surprising how Sky Sports haven’t got a
women to represent their brand. This may also be due to the fact that there isn’t
enough coverage of women’s sports on TV.
