music video analysis

Narrative

The Notorious B.I.G. - "Hypnotize"

Biggie smalls was a rap artist in the early 90's. He's well known for the rap he's produced. This song is successful due to the narrative. The narrative of the song is him commenting a crime and then running away from the police to get away with it. He starts off by getting into a car and then driving away from the police. As the video progresses he then gets away by getting onto a boat and escaping.

Visual Effects

Jay-z and Kanye West - In Paris

This song is successful because of the visual effects. It uses visual effects throughout the video from the start to the end. This is a unique video as not all visual effect songs uses effects that have been used in this song. The lighting and the effect of a mirror being placed in the centre of the screen duplicating the events shown on both sides of the screen make this video particularly successful.

Performance Element

Missy Elliot - Get your freak on

Get your freak on was released in 2001. I've picked this video because of the performers in the video. The performers in this particular video made it successful because it combined dancing mainly used in rap videos with bhangra. The performers were mainly dancing throughout the video and this made the video successful. The dancing is also considered to be break dancing and this could make people want to dance because it synergies well with the song.

Camera Work

Rudimental - Waiting all night

I've picked this song because of the camera shots that are in this particular video. There are close ups of individuals, medium close ups and long shots. I feel that this videos most effective camera shots was when the camera was attached to the bike and recorded someone riding it on the streets. The camera is aimed on mainly one individual and there are over 5 different shots in this video.

Creative Concept

Childish Gambino - Sweatpants

The song I've chosen for creative concept is Childish Gambino Sweatpants. This is because the rapper keeps on being duplicating in the video. I feel that this is successful because each one of duplications say something different as they are set out to have different personalities.

Mise-en-scene

David Guetta - Sexy Chick

The video of this song is recording a party. This makes the video successful as it seems more realistic as people go out to parties. The way people are acting in the video reflects the mood that they are in. The video is mainly focusing on one individual in the song and his experience at the party.

Editing

Kid Cudi - Just what i am

I've picked this video because of the editing in the video. There are lots of different shots in this video and effects that make this music video successful. There are close ups of people in the video, long shots, medium close ups ect.

I picked this video because of the visual effects. I find that the most successful effect is when the foreground freeze and the rapper in the video continues as normal. Another successful feature was when the foreground was slower than the rapper in the video.

This music video is successful because of mise-en-scene. The whole video is Childish Gambino at fair on a frerris wheel and is recording himself on it. It gives the artist a realistic branding as pweople will associate the artist being down to earth

I picked this song because of the narrative. The song starts of as a young thug trying to make it in a gang. He then gets a gun from someone who has more authority in the gang. He thinks about shooting someone but doesn't. This is attractive to the audience as they are familiar with gang cultures and entices them.

music video treatment

Scene 1: Someone will be recorded leaving their house and making their way to the bus stop. They will be recording the trip to goals on the bus. We will then get off the bus and record our way walking to goals. On our way to goals along the way someone will accidentally bump into someone walking. The shot will then be reminded and the person will then walk past the member of public they originally bumped into and carry on making their way to goals. After we arrive at goals we will be walking into the pitch and it will be empty. This will then be played backwards and there will be people playing football.

Scene 2: A football match will be recorded and there will be someone messing up and not playing as good as everyone else. They will then be training in the video by themselves and train to get better. They will play another football match and will be playing better and scoring goals. There will be a first person view of someone doing skills and scoring goals.

Scene 3: Someone will take a penalty and miss and then it will be re-winded and they will score the penalty. There will be more first person views of someone shooting and doing skills. People will be training in the video to show improvement as the song progresses. I will rewind the whole clip and have someone going back into their house as if the day hasn't started yet.
