Minority Report Analysis

The medium close up range shot allows you to see the reactions of all the characters in this image. It sets an impression that something is going to happen and a build up in tension when looking at this. This may suggests that a crime is being committed and the characters are in shock. It could also mean they've spotted someone running away as one of the characters faces are more serious rather than in shock of a crime that could of been committed. This shot allows us to see the background where the characters are standing setting an impression of what is going on or what may be going on in this scene. It just shows enough to get an impression of the scene.

The Wide Shot allows us to see the setting and the environment around in this scene. Its done deliberately to get an idea of what's going on in the scene and to get a better understanding of what may be going on. The car has purposely been placed in the centre of this scene as  its the main part of the scene to get all focus on this part rather than have the car at the bottom right of the screen this is so its easier to understand what's going on in the environment. The car has been centralized to grab attention so then later on as the character runs past he is seen.

The Close Up shot is used to get the extra information about the characters emotions and detail in what he is feeling at this particular point to understand what he's going through. The character may have seen danger or someone in front of him as he is staring at whatever it is. He looks to avoid what could potentially harm him as he is aware of what could happen. This shot allows us to see the background of where this man is and to set an impression of what is going on or going to happen depending on where he is. It sets the atmosphere for what's going to happen and creates tension.

Camera Shots

Camera shots
I chose a close up view to show the emotion of the character in the scene to set an impression to the viewer about what’s going to happen due to the emotions of the person.
I thought a wide was needed to show the area and the atmosphere where the events were taking place also to give some indication of where similar events happen every day.
A long shot was to show the stance of the character and the manner their behaving in to indicate how their feeling and emotions using their body language to indicate this.
The big close-up view was to emphasise what was going on in the shot and to show the detail of how the character is feeling and what emotions they are feeling.
Medium close-up was used to show how the character is feeling but also the environment he was in.
Camera angles
I used a high angle to show who was the weaker person/victim in the scene to show that they are vulnerable than other people. It’s also to show a build-up as this view is used when a weaker person is in danger and to show tension building up.
I picked a low angle to show intimidation in the scene to make out as if the bully in the scene is bigger and stronger than the victim. This is because a high angle view would make the bully look weak and vulnerable as the victim did which makes the scene less intimidating.

Fruit bowl colour task 1:

I chose urban as my colour palate because I found the colours were to do with nature and weren’t as dull as usual earth or nature type colours. It shows vibrant colours which brings the emotion of excitement and joy. The colour brown is to do with nature and our Earth whereas the colour blue is to do more with the sea and the sky. It shows the emotion of being ill and sad but goes well with brown having the concept of Earth and the colours in our world. Orange and yellow is a sign of happiness as the sun is bright and it brightens our day whenever it’s out. Grey is associated with being bored, although the other colours are bright it suggests being bored is not always a bad thing as being bored can lead to creativity.

Sky Sports Blog

Language
The advert shows one particular footballer celebrating with thousands of people behind him looking at him. The slogan ‘’every goal matters’’ suggests that football is a sport where everything is serious and by missing a game or goal means you've missed out of something big. The conventions of this advert are the Barclay's premier league logo so the viewer knows it’s a football advertisement. Another convention is the Sky Sports logo which shows Sky is advertising sports channels. The Sky logo being a recognisable brand which means when they advertise it’s a recognisable advert and millions of people would have seen it. The slogan ‘’believe in better’’ makes people think everything sky do will get better and better.
Institution
Sports is a group of sports television channels operated by the satellite pay-TV company British Sky Broadcasting. Sky Sports is a commodity which is something bought and sold. A monthly subscription fee is paid. Barclay’s premier league is a well-known brand for football. Rupert Murdoch is the founder of Sky.
Audience
The target audience for this advertisement is dominantly football fans. This would be mainly for male viewers but also female viewers with an 80:20 split. The minimum age would be 25 to 60 as this is a monthly subscription, and subscribers with a good wage packet would be paying for this rather than a student who is studying. This would make Sky Sports target middle classed people.
Representation

The representation on the advert is mainly white male footballers. This suggests that mainly white players are in the Premier League or even more white footballers around the world. This may have been done due to the fact that more Europeans watch football than the Asian community as stereotypes suggest the Asian community are more into cricket. Even though women’s football in growing its surprising how Sky Sports haven’t got a women to represent their brand. This may also be due to the fact that there isn’t enough coverage of women’s sports on TV.

Media Debate 2

"Celebrities have too much influence is society."

I think celebrities have too much of an influence in today’s society  as young children are looking up to them more and more as role models. This is because of the stupid things they do and children start thinking they can do the same as they are under a bad influence. For example celebrities start posting pictures and comments about what’s going on in their lives on social media and majority of the people following them, liking their photos etc. Go and do exactly the same thing as the celebrity. This is due to the fact that they are rated highly in the eyes of the public and even other stars.

Media Debate

"Newspapers are more interested in selling newspapers than reporting news truthfully."

I agree with the statement above. This is because newspapers exaggerate stories they've found out and untruthfully sell it to members of the public. For example this was done with Tulisa being set up making out as if she was selling drugs but it was only the newspapers selling rubbish.  This was one of the tricks they've used in the past to sell their papers untruthfully. On the other hand not all stories in papers are lies and exaggerated to sell newspapers to the public but some of them will be as they are more concerned about the sales they make.

TV News Research

1) The key information about the programme:

  • The channel it is broadcast on - channel 4
  • The day(s) and time of broadcast - mon-fri 7:00 sat-sun 6:30
  • The presenter or presenters - Jon Snow, Krishnan Guru-Murthy, Cathy Newman
  • Average viewing figures - 650,000-700,000
  • Any awards the programme has won - international emmy award for news in 2003, 2004, 2013.

  • The logo/brand identity of the programme
  • A video clip from YouTube of the show

2) The institution behind the programme – this is usually the TV channel it is broadcast on. Find out:

  • What year the channel was launched - 1982
  • Who owns or runs the channel - OFCOM
  • The channel logo
  • Image result for channel 4 logo
  • A YouTube trailer advertising a show on the channel

3) The target audience
If you can’t find the official target audience for the programme, make an educated guess based on the rest of your research. Remember: % gender, age range, social class, level of education, job/earnings etc.

i think the target audience for channel 4 news would be 50:50 male/female and it is from the ages of 10+. This is because families will most likely be watching TV around this time where as news at 10 would be mainly for adults as the children are sleeping.

4) The running order for three separate editions of the programme. Watch at least 20 minutes of the programme on THREE separate days and write down the following:

The first day watching 4 news the stories that appeared were about Ashya Kings family being stopped from seeing him, British Jihads and a panda not giving birth.

The second day the story of Ashya King and his family appeared again, child exploitation and the yes programme.

The third day the stories on 4 news were  about youth being radicalized, a american journalist being murdered and Ashya King.

I think the editors decided to put the stories in this order so the stories get less serious as the programme goes along.
